Supreme Court says parliamentary approval needed for Article 50

Court also rules that no approval is needed from Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland

Supreme Court says parliamentary approval needed for Article 50

The UK's Supreme Court has ruled that the government cannot trigger Article 50 without authorisation from Parliament.

The court's justices made the ruling by a majority of 8 to 3. The landmark judgement means Prime Minister Theresa May cannot formally notify the EU of the UK's intention to leave the bloc without approval from lawmakers.
