Swedish regulator: Closet indexing one of market's 'greatest risks'

The Swedish financial regulator has labelled closet indexing of funds as among the “greatest risks and problems” facing consumers and financial stability, as European regulators continue probing active funds that track indexes.

After a year-long study, Finansinspektionen identified hidden index funds as a priority area for consumer protection, the first time a national watchdog in Europe has publically voiced concerns about the practice following a probe.
