Switzerland To Relax Bkg Secrecy; Vows Cooperation

Bowing to international pressure, Switzerland Friday became the latest European money haven to make major concessions on banking secrecy laws, pledging far more forceful cooperation with foreign countries in pursuing tax evaders.

However, the country said it will maintain its secrecy laws, and remains unwilling to automatically hand over confidential client information to other countries. The Swiss decision would be applied by means of bilateral agreements on double taxation, the government said.
