Improvements in technology have made it easier for the buyside to access dark liquidity while volatile market conditions are driving them to trade there – with volumes reaching record highs in January.

Institutional traders used to use their brokers to slice large orders to reduce the impact of trading on public markets but dark pools of liquidity are fast becoming mainstream destinations.
