On the basis that it is always darkest just before the dawn, maybe the outlook is about to brighten for European investment banks. Just maybe.

It certainly looks pretty black out there. The news over the past couple of weeks has been of unremitting gloom for a sector already beaten down by years of retrenchment since the financial crisis.
