Telefonica's bond sale plan floors credit analysts

Telefonica, the Spanish telecommunications firm, has mandated five banks to run a benchmark new bond deal, in a new issue whose arrival has confounded analysts.

One high-grade telecoms analyst at a European investment bank said: &quotI'm a bit surprised that they are coming when they are. They have very little debt to refinance and I can't think of what they might need the capital for.&quot
