Shares in Telia, the Swedish telecoms operator, fell 11% after it surprised investors with details of a €19.5bn ($17bn) takeover bid for Sonera, its Finnish equivalent.

The two companies had revealed on Monday that they were in talks, but on Tuesday Telia unexpectedly announced it would bid for Sonera at a 15% premium.
