Templeton Asset Management (India) is understood to be acquiring 100% of Indian mutual fund company Pioneer ITI, which has some $1.7bn in funds under management.

Separately, Pioneer Investments, the US mutual fund group owned by Italy's Unicredito Italiano, has hired Edmund Lacis, a mutual fund veteran, to head its Asian expansion.
