Europe’s hedge fund industry, typically one of the most lucrative and rewarding parts of investment management on the continent, is facing a squeeze.

Hedge funds must meet the cost of increased regulation under the European Union’s revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, or Mifid II, which comes into force at the start of 2018, at a time when the industry has taken a drubbing over poor performance.
