The Careerologist: All I want for Christmas is (not) to be on call?

By the time most people get to the end of the year, I think it is safe to say they have semi-checked out of work. Employees focus on the holidays ahead, desperately trying to get through the Christmas-drinks-and-dinners marathon that is December in London.

But some of us have to work over Christmas and throughout the holiday period. NHS staff, carers, security guards, taxi drivers, people who work in the services industry and journalists are among those who will toil during the festive period.
