As I walked into an office a couple of months ago, I held the door open for the man behind me. It was logical; I was closer to the handle and, the polite office-dweller that I am, I gestured for him to go before me.
Mortified, he walked through the door and said, “Oh, how embarrassing”. Had we followed the dated door-holding etiquette that dictates a man should hold the door open for a woman, he would have been forced to leap in front of me to open it.
