Four former executives of Barclays have been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with crisis-era fundraising by the UK bank.

The UK's Serious Fraud Office charged the quartet today as part of its probe into Barclays' decision to raise billions from institutional investors - including the Qatari royal family - in June and October 2008.
