Most of Wall Street has watched Europe grappling with its new capital markets rules with a mixture of bemusement and indifference.

Complying with the EU's revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid II) has been a pain for those US firms with European operations but there seemed no risk of a similar revolution in the US where Donald Trump is pushing for more Wall Street-friendly regulation.
