March 8, 2018 marks International Women’s Day with this year’s theme being #pressforprogress to motivate us to think, act and be gender inclusive. #Pressforprogress is an apt hashtag for 2018, highlighting the power the media has demonstrated over the past year in driving the public conversation towards achieving real change.

For example, BBC journalist Carrie Gracie’s decision to turn down £45,000 and resign from her post in China, and the media frenzy it created, led to a government select committee inquiry being set up to look into the BBC’s pay inequality and shedding light on the 126 equal pay claims backed by the National Union of Journalists.
