The Village

You may have just pocketed a $1m (&euro1.1m) bonus, got the coveted parking space or your own office, but you have a long way to go in the investment banking pecking order before you reach the level of Simon Murray, the former head of Deutsche Bank in Asia. Murray, who now dabbles in venture capital, is about to become immortalised on the silver screen. His life story will be based on his hugely successful book from the 1960s, Legionnaire, in which he recounts his days as a tobacco smuggler in South America and his life in the French Foreign Legion. That was before he settled down with his wife, Jennifer, who for good measure has just taken off on a 40-day flying race to Australia. The book is being reissued this summer and the film about Murray will set a new benchmark for bankers' vanity. Remember, you haven't really made it until you are in talks with a Hollywood director about who will play you in the movie...
