When Lehman Brothers decided last week to reintroduce a formal dress code, it cited increased contact with clients as one of the reasons for the change.

But perhaps the bank was just following the lead of UK retailer Austin Reed, which, five months ago, cunningly reintroduced a (more expensive) formal range of clothes after two years of featuring casual attire.
