HSBC sent out a release last week trumpeting its role on the flotation of Vendanta Resources, an Indian metals and mining group, on the London Stock Exchange.

Unfortunately, the company is called Vedanta. Since HSBC hasn't led a European flotation for two years, it just got a bit flustered. Its excitement may also account for the fact that HSBC's release forgot to mention JP Morgan, which was not only the joint global co-ordinator and bookrunner with HSBC, but also snagged the roles of sole financial adviser and broker. Funny, that.
