Third quarter is worst in five years for M&A deals

The third quarter of 2002 will be the worst quarter for global mergers and acquisitions by number of deals for five years, according to new figures.

Numbers from data provider Dealogic show a mere 4,824 transactions over the past three months. That is down 25% on the second quarter, and lower than any quarter since 1997.
