US investment banks in London have hiked bonuses for their junior staff in a bid to stave off threats from private equity firms and other competitors seeking to grow their own analyst ranks.

Across the City, banks have paid those in the first year of their career an average of 23% more in bonuses than they did in 2017, according to a compensation survey by recruiters Dartmouth Partners.
