London and parts of the south-east and east England are expected to be put under Tier 4, a new stricter level of Covid-19 restrictions, after a new variant of the coronavirus was disclosed earlier this week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a press conference at 4pm, alongside Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer for England, and Sir Patrick Vallance, the chief scientific adviser.
