Tory tax plan &quotcould distort stakeholder playing field&quot

A plan by the UK opposition Conservative Party to abolish tax on savings income for low- to middle-income earners could interfere with stakeholder pensions, according to senior figures in the pensions industry.

Michael Portillo, finance spokesman for the Conservatives, announced proposals on Monday to make income on savings free of tax, provided the individual is not a higher rate taxpayer.
