Trading, asset management, hedge funds and investment banking are among the worst financial sectors for assumed pay equality, according to Financial News’ research of 746 women working in European finance.

Just over 60% of women in trading believe they earn less than their male counterparts - the highest percentage of all sectors in the Women in Finance Survey 2017. A further 25% do not know if they earn less. In asset management and hedge funds, 59% say they are underpaid compared with male peers, close followed by investment banking (58%). Hedge funds, however, was also one of the three best sectors for pay equality – with nearly a quarter of respondents saying they earn the same as male colleagues. HR and investor services also fared well in this respect.
