Former UK politicians often land in high-paying banking jobs after roles in government and the revolving door is turning faster. JPMorgan has hired Chuka Umunna, the former shadow business secretary and MP for Streatham who lost out in a Labour leadership contest to Jeremy Corbyn, as head of ESG for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Umunna quit politics last year and resurfaced at communications giant Edelman. He joins the US bank as large firms are increasingly turning their attention to ESG issues.
BNP Paribas has continued to build out its UK investment bank with the hire of Kirshlen Moodley, who was latterly head of activism for Emea at JPMorgan. He joins as a managing director in UK M&A. Andrew McNaught, who leads the unit in London said the hire was part of its "growing UK advisory practice".
