Trading Places: Top Citi dealmaker retires, UBS’s Mercier leaves, Goldman promotes Somaiya

One of Citigroup’s top dealmakers is retiring from the investment bank. Mark Shafir, who most recently served as co-head of global M&A at Citi alongside Cary Kochman, announced his retirement on the morning of 11 April. Shafir has been at Citi for 15 years, having worked in a number of leadership roles during his tenure there.

UBS’s head of equity capital markets syndicate in Europe is set to leave the bank after more than 13 years. François-Olivier Mercier, who took charge of the ECM syndicate team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at UBS in 2018, is due to depart the bank.
