Trading Places: Wells Fargo moves Langley, EY’s top UK actuary leaves, RBC poaches DCM trio

Citigroup has named new leaders within its European industrials coverage team in the latest shake-up of its dealmaking team after one of its senior bankers stepped down. Koen van Velsen, a former JPMorgan banker who joined Citigroup to lead its industrials coverage in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in 2014, is departing, according to a memo seen by Financial News.

Enrico Prato has been promoted to head of Emea mobility, having joined Citi in 2011 to cover the sector, according to a separate memo announcing his appointment. Meanwhile, Rob Jurd — a 22-year veteran of Citigroup — has also been promoted to head of diversified industrials, covering sectors such as aerospace and defence.

Deutsche Bank has promoted two long-standing dealmakers to co-head its capital markets business in Europe, as the German lender ups its dealmaking ambitions. Hoby Buvat, who has been leading its leveraged finance unit in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Mark Lewellen, head of debt capital markets in the region, have taken on the new roles. The duo are set to become co-heads of capital markets in Emea, a spokesperson confirmed to Financial News.

EY has appointed Silvia Rindone as its new UK and Ireland managing partner for strategy and transactions. Rindone, who was previously EY UK’s strategy and transactions markets leader and head of retail, replaces Steve Ivermee who has been in the role for seven years.

Wells Fargo's top banker in London is set to relocate to New York to become chief operating officer of its corporate and investment bank after a senior shake-up. John Langley, who heads Wells Fargo's international business, has been named COO of its corporate and investment bank in addition to his current role.

HSBC formed a new unit to focus on artificial intelligence, as large banks continue to focus on how to utilise technology that is expected to automate back-office processes in the sector. The UK lender has created an Office of Applied Artificial Intelligence, a unit that has been brought into its wholesale data and analytics team. Edward J Achtner will lead the division and will report into Marc Ellis, who heads HSBC's wholesale data, analytics and CRM division on an interim basis, the memo said.

RBC Capital Markets hired a trio of bankers to bolster its European debt capital markets team. Alex Ulrich joined the Canadian bank as a director in its financial institutions DCM team. He joins from UniCredit and will be based in Frankfurt with a mandate to increase RBC's coverage of European banks.

The leader of EY's UK actuarial practice has left the Big Four firm to join pension provider Just. Mark Godson, who was previously a partner at Swiss Re before becoming a partner at EY, will join Just as chief financial officer.

LME Clear, the London Metal Exchange’s clearing house, appointed David Warren as its new chair. Warren will take over on 20 July from Marco Strimer, who is stepping down as his term expires. Warren is an exchange veteran who was formerly chief financial officer of Nasdaq and interim chief executive of the London Stock Exchange Group.

The next director general of the Serious Fraud Office will be a former senior Metropolitan Police officer. Nick Ephgrave will replace Lisa Osofsky in the role at the end of September, the attorney general’s office announced on 5 July.

CMC Markets CFO Euan Marshall has resigned with effect from January to become CFO at IntegraFin Holdings. The online trading platform said the search for a new CFO will begin shortly. Marshall will assist with the handover over the next six months. Marshall joined the company in 2011 and has been CFO for the past four years, the London-listed company said.
