With hedge fund allocation hitting an all-time high, merger activity is increasing in the sector with the number of merger and acquisitions of hedge funds outpacing M&As of traditional asset managers for the first time in 2010.

Over 100 deals were sealed involving alternative managers last year, including hedge funds and funds of hedge funds, compared to 85 traditional manager deals, according to a report from Freeman & Co, an M&A consultant.
