The possibility of having a normal Christmas in England this year is going to prove “extremely challenging” for the government to achieve, scientists warned, despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s pledges.

The prime minister’s spokesperson told reporters on 26 October that Johnson has “been clear previously” that it is his ambition for families to be able to celebrate Christmas together this year.
