The chair of the influential Treasury Committee has said that it is “essential” that the Treasury publishes work on the economic impact of Covid-19 restrictions after the government department refused to do so.

The renewed call for the publication of the economic impact of lockdown by the Treasury’s chief economist comes hours before the start of the second nationwide lockdown in England.
