Treasury influence over FCA could cut both ways

Questions are being asked about what involvement the government had in the scrapping of the FCA's review into banking culture but independence is crucial for the regulator

The recent cancellation of the Financial Conduct Authority’s review of banking standards has been, to say the least, a disappointment.

The review was put in place to look at how the banks were progressing with their reforms on issues that seek to find that Holy Grail of banking - exemplary practice. Rather than doing an overall review, the regulator will work with individual banks on standards improvement.
