Twitter 'hack crash' raises questions of market integrity

A false tweet that sent US stocks momentarily tumbling yesterday will raise further questions over the structural integrity of the US and European cash equities markets

Twitter, the hugely popular social media site, has fast become an important platform for sourcing and distributing breaking news about and within the financial markets.

Its 200 million users combined with the 'retweet' and 'hashtag' functions have created a powerful ecosystem in which information can be both republished and aggregated at breakneck speed.
