City salaries on the rise

UK recruitment firm finds that banks and other financial institutions expect to increase base pay this year as bonus rules bite

Nearly two thirds of managers at firms in the City of London expect to increase wages for their staff this year, as employers continue to sidestep new bonus restrictions by hiking base salaries.

Recruitment group Morgan McKinley surveyed 200 line managers and human resources managers working at a range of financial institutions including investment banks, brokers, insurers, hedge funds and private equity firms and found that 67% expected base salaries to increase in 2011.
