UAE seeks final feedback on short-selling proposals

Financial regulator plans to regulate securities lending and short selling as part of plans to be upgraded to emerging market status.

The financial securities regulator in the United Arab Emirates is preparing to close the market participant feedback and comment period on its draft financial regulation proposals as it seeks to upgrade its status to an emerging market.

SCA, the securities and commodities authority published the proposals on November 3 to regulate the practice of securities lending and short selling, which are two of the six required criteria by the index provider MSCI to gain emerging market, rather than frontier market, status.
