The volatile start to the year in global markets is not a sign of things to come, according to the chief executive of UBS, whose comments could dampen hopes of a quick recovery at banks' trading divisions.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley European Financials Conference on Thursday, Ermotti stopped short of providing revenue projections for the first quarter, saying only "there has been a very euphoric start of the year".
