UBS chief Ralph Hamers says bank only wants ‘critical’ hires as focus turns to costs

UBS chief executive Ralph Hamers said that the bank will pull back from "non-critical" hires as it keeps a tighter grip on costs.

While rivals including Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs have trimmed headcount in recent weeks, UBS will be putting the brakes on new hires, he told analysts during the bank's third quarter earnings call.
