UBS investment bank drags on performance despite bond trading gains

UBS’s investment bank slipped to a loss in the fourth quarter for the second year running, capping a difficult 12 months during which it restructured the division and cut jobs.

Helped by healthy profit gains in asset and wealth management, the Swiss banking group reported company-wide pre-tax operating profits of $928m for the final three months of 2019, 93% ahead of the same period in 2018.
