UBS has nominated an Australian banking executive to its board, citing her experience overseeing bank mergers as the Swiss lender integrates with its former rival Credit Suisse.

Gail Kelly, who was formerly chief executive of Westpac Bank, will replace Dieter Wemmer on the board, according to a statement. He has spent eight years on the Swiss bank's board.
