UBS paid around 700 of its top bankers average bonuses of $1.6m as large investment banks have continued to pay out huge sums for key employees amid a battle for talent.

The Swiss bank paid key employees, known as key risk takers, from a $1.6bn bonus pool, according to the annual report for the 2021 financial year. These are top staff whose actions can affect the risk profile of the bank — they received an average of $2.2m each, made up of bonuses and salaries.
