UBS has hired Masataka Iwata, formerly of Barclays Global Investors (BGI), as managing director and head of hedge fund services in Japan.

Iwata joins UBS on August 1. The Swiss bank is hoping his experience in Japanese securities lending, equity finance and prime brokerage businesses will help boost its presence in the market.
