UK FIRM OF THE YEAR The resurgence of Newton Investment Management in recent years was recognised as it beat BlackRock and Schroders to the title of UK asset management firm of the year.
It also narrowly missed out on taking the crown for global equity manager of the year. Since the start of this year its assets under management have increased from £28.8bn (€42.9bn) to £32.8bn at the end of September. Helena Morrissey, chief executive, said Newton enjoyed success with new products offering unconstrained investing and absolute returns. The company, owned by Mellon Financial, has won 24 new segregated mandates worth £3.4bn; 14 were from UK clients, worth a combined £2.4bn. The firm has made significant hires this year, including Neiloy Ghosh, who joined as investment leader for Japanese equities from Société Générale Asset Management; Chris Metcalfe, formerly of Schroders, who joined the UK equities team; Parmeshwar Chadha joined from Citigroup as a credit analyst; and Ewan Markson-Brown who joined from Merrill Lynch.
