City analysts have noted the incoming UBS chief executive’s lack of experience in investment banking and questioned what this could mean for the future of the division at the Swiss bank, which has struggled since the departure of Andrea Orcel.

UBS said on Thursday that Sergio Ermotti, its chief executive since 2011, would make way for ING Group boss Ralph Hamers on 1 November. The appointment surprised some analysts.
