UK audit watchdog urges firms to improve financial disclosures

A review by the Financial Reporting Council comes amid increasing concerns about audit and accounting quality in Britain

British companies need to improve the quality of financial disclosures in their annual reports following the introduction of two new accounting standards, the UK Financial Reporting Council said in a review released Thursday.

The country’s regulator for accounting and auditing reviewed the annual reports of 65 British companies and analysed the application of new rules governing the accounting of revenue recognition and financial instruments as well as of an existing rule on the impairment of nonfinancial assets.
