Osborne's pensions play rattles annuity providers

Radical tax shifts and a 'right to advice' on retirement are the centrepiece of a new push to give retirees more freedom

George Osborne, UK Chancellor, announced what he claimed were the most far-reaching reforms to UK pension taxation since 1921 this afternoon, amounting to a considerable liberalisation of the rules around what savers must do with their pension pots at retirement.

The stock market's immediate reaction was negative for the annuity providers.
