A UK court has ruled that a near £2m bill charged to BlackRock by lawyers in a recent legal battle with a Middle Eastern energy company was far too high — meaning the investment giant has been left to foot a large part of the cost, despite winning the case.

BlackRock racked up the bill from US law firm Weil Gotshal & Manges, which represented it in a case against UAE-based Dana Gas.
