UK jobs plunge by biggest amount since financial crisis due to virus outbreak

Figures will get worse in coming months after government's furlough scheme comes to an end, commentators warn

Employment in the UK dropped by the largest amount between April to June since the aftermath of the global financial crisis, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.

Employment decreased by 220,000 on the quarter, in what was the largest quarterly decrease since May to July 2009.
