After a decade of regulating the UK's securities industry, the Financial Services Industry is preparing to be broken up

The Financial Services Authority has spent the last 10 years as the UK's sole financial regulator.

During the course of its short life it has successful brought to account a host of companies and individuals guilty of market wrongdoing. But the onset of the financial crisis, and the difficult years that have followed, raised many uncomfortable questions about its effectiveness as a regulator of increasingly complex markets.
