UK fund body fights ‘greenwash’ charge with push for kitemark

Investment Association aims to establish common standards across a ‘proliferating’ industry, but competing sets of standards are proliferating too

The UK’s trade body for asset managers is drawing up its first kitemark for green and responsible investing, amid a rapidly expanding profusion of funds claiming to invest in this way.

The Investment Association, which represents members with £7.7tn in assets, said it wants to bring “greater clarity to help savers and investors”. The IA hopes the proposed label might aid the “global exportation” of sustainability funds based in the UK.
