UK government mulls restrictions and police clampdowns on gatherings of 30 people

The country has seen a spike in Covid-19 cases, with almost 3,000 cases reported on 7 September

The UK government is mulling the introduction of new social distancing rules to limit home gatherings and ban groups of more than 30 people in England.

It is unclear how many people will be allowed to meet once the new restriction is introduced, although the Evening Standard reported that officials are planning on a ban of more than six people, citing an unnamed government source.
