UK government opts to keep Covid rules for Christmas but urges travel restraint

'We do think it’s absolutely vital that people should, at this very, very tricky time, exercise a high degree of personal responsibility'

The leaders of the UK's devolved nations have urged individuals to keep travel during the Christmas period to a minimum, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked families to “exercise extreme caution in the way we celebrate Christmas” this year.

Talks were held among the leaders of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland over the last 24 hours to determine whether changes should be made to plans to relax the original Christmas framework for Covid-19 rules, in light of a steep infection increase across parts of the country.
