UK household spending drops to record lows as government re-opens economy

Spending in the UK dropped by £9.5bn, according to the ONS's latest figures

Spending in the UK has nosedived to record levels, and households’ saving has increased as the government eases restrictions and attempts to revive the economy after the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown.

According to the latest government statistics released on 30 June, Britons’ households’ saving ratio increased to 8.6% in the first quarter of the year, compared with 6.6% in the fourth quarter of 2019.
