Stock-picking funds on sale to UK investors are on track to post their worst ever year of outflows, as the appeal of cheaper passive investments continues.

According to figures from Calastone, the funds data company, active equity funds domiciled in the UK had their worst three-month period on record between July and September, with investors pulling a net £3.5bn — more than the previous three quarters combined.
